Amazing views! Clean, trim, and on top of the world
Great place. Supposedly the front desk is open 24/7. We tried to call and arrived late... sign says closed at 10pm, but apparently you need to drive to the lodge to check in. (Signs aren?t clear about checking in at the lodge). Great little train that circles through the entire park. We stayed in site #11 which provides one of the best views.
Scenic
A mostly quiet Arkansas state park that is located on the second highest mountain-top in the entire state. The scenery and sunsets are breathtaking. The parks sits near the eastern end of the 50+ mile Talimena National Scenic Byway that runs between Mena AR and Talihena OK and passes numerous scenic vistas and historical sites. There is a moderate sized lodge/hotel with a restaurant located here in addition to the campground.
The RV sites are somewhat close together for a state park and many are fairly short in length. However there are others that are long enough for even the longest of Class A motorhomes. All sites are paved, back-in only, with water and electric. Many of the sites are straight back-in rather than angled, and depending on other vehicles parked opposite these sites backing in could be challenging. Some leveling will be needed at most of the sites. All sites have picnic table, outdoor grill, and lantern hook.
Many sites could support satellite reception; also several over-the-air channels are available using the rooftop antenna including some of the major networks. There is no wifi in the RV park, but free wifi is available in the lodge for all guests.
Take some time to hike some of the nearby trails, enjoy the scenery they offer and watch for wildlife especially deer which are plentiful. We stayed here 4 nights and would return.
